Rogers defeats Rivett by thin margin in runoff

Cody Rogers of Omaha narrowly defeated Hunter Rivett of Berryville, the Carroll County District 4 justice of the peace, to win the Republican nomination for the District 6 seat in the state House of Representatives in Tuesday’s primary runoff.

Unofficial district-wide totals showed Rogers with 1,224 votes (50.8 percent) compared with 1,187 (49.2 percent) for Rivett.

Rogers will be unopposed in November’s general election, so Tuesday’s victory means he will fill the seat currently held by Republican Harlan Breaux of Holiday Island, who did not seek re-election.

A dominant performance in Boone County lifted Rogers to the 37-vote victory. Rogers got 609 votes (82.9 percent) in Boone, compared with 126 votes (17.1 percent) for Rivett. That was enough to overcome Rivett’s edge in Carroll County, where he received 1,061 votes (63.3 percent), with Rogers getting 615 votes (36.7 percent).
