A Berryville woman died after a shooting incident on Saturday, May 18, at the Auto Zone store at 501 W. Trimble Ave. in Berryville.

In a news release issued Monday, Berryville police chief Robert Bartos said officers were dispatched to the Auto Zone store at approximately 1:29 p.m. Saturday for a report of shots fired.

Upon arriving at the scene, Bartos said, officers located an individual with gunshot wounds. The person was transported to Mercy Hospital Berryville, where they were pronounced dead.

The deceased was identified as Izamar Maryeli Paz of Berryville. Her age was not listed.

“Both parties involved were acquainted with each other, and both parties were armed with firearms,” Bartos said in the news release. “The investigation is still ongoing. Further information will be released at a later time.”

Several Berryville police officers were at the scene Saturday afternoon, including Bartos. Officers took photos near the entrance to the store and searched the parking lot for shell casings.

Several evidence markers were placed at various locations near the store entrance.
