Woman jailed on negligent homicide charge

A Fort Smith woman was booked into the Carroll County Detention Center in Berryville last week on charges of negligent homicide, driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.

Shanea Lynn Niblett, 38, was booked into the jail on Thursday, May 30, according to intake logs.

No further information was available by press time regarding the charges against Niblett, but she was the driver in an a one-vehicle accident that left a Eureka Springs man dead early this year.

According to a report written by Arkansas State Police Trooper Jackson Little, Niblett was driving a 1994 Oldsmobile southbound on Arkansas 23 at 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 10 when she lost control of the vehicle in a curve.

The vehicle traveled off the right side of the road, then overturned on its right side before coming to a rest on its top approximately 50 feet from the roadway, Little’s report says.

Darin Lee Workman, 55, of Eureka Springs was killed. Niblett was injured in the accident and was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, the report says.

In a Facebook post, the Holiday Island Fire Department said one of the vehicle’s occupants was ejected and was pulled from a creek by bystanders. Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate the second occupant, the Facebook post says. One occupant was flown from the scene by Air Evac Lifeteam, the Facebook post said, while the other was deceased at the scene.

Little’s report listed Niblett as a Eureka Springs resident at the time of the accident.
