July 4 events stretch from noon to night

The Fourth of July holiday, coinciding with the City of Eureka Springs’ 146th birthday, will again be filled with a day of activities.

Celebrations will begin from noon to 2 p.m. on Friday, July 4, at Basin Spring Park with a citywide birthday celebration featuring Eureka Springs bingo and trivia, prizes and the annual tradition of birthday cake for all.

The event will also include music from the Arkansas Highlands Brass Band and more. Those attending the musical performance at Basin Spring Park are asked to bring their own folding chairs.

Later that day, the third annual Jamboreeka, put on by the Eureka Springs Parks and Recreation Department, will be held from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the municipal ballfields at Lake Leatherwood City Park, 1303 County Road 204 on the city’s west side.

The event, which will end with a fireworks celebration, will include live music, food and beer vendors, merchandise and water games. Music will be provided by Sylamore Special and Fossils of Ancient Robots.

Jamboreeka will also include a raffle thanks to $1,000 worth of gift cards donated by CS Bank. Parks and Recreation staff, along with members of the Eureka Springs Parks and Recreation Commission will sell tickets throughout the evening for $5 per ticket or five tickets for $20.

Parking for Jamboreeka will be $10 per vehicle for a space at the ballfields and $5 per vehicle for a lot that will be available at the Hidden Valley Guest Ranch, located a quarter mile from the ballfields at 777 Hidden Valley Ranch Road. Only cash will be accepted for parking, according to event organizers. Handicap parking will be free.

All proceeds earned from parking fees will go to the parks department and Clear Spring School.

The Eureka Springs Transit Department will be operating a designated shuttle to take attendees from Hidden Valley Guest Ranch to the ballfields.

Event organizers are urging those attending to take advantage of free parking Planer Hill Park, or anywhere downtown, and take advantage of free trolley service being offered by the transit department. Trolley service to the ballfields will begin at 5 p.m.
