A Eureka Springs man wanted in connection with a homicide in Fort Smith was arrested by deputies with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, July 18, according to the CCSO and the Fort Smith Police Department.
In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office said county disp atchers received a call about a male who was covered in blood and had a gun. The male was accompanied by a female, dispatchers were told.
A short time later, Fort Smith police issued an alert asking law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for Hunter Harrell, 25, of Eureka Springs, and Ashley Lensing, 42, of Fort Smith, in connection with a homicide there, and officers were able to determine these were the same individuals, according to the sheriff’s office.
While searching a location on Stoppel Road in Eureka Springs, Deputy Micah Gash located the suspect vehicle, the sheriff’s office said, with Harrell and Lensing inside. Both were taken into custody without incident, according to the sheriff’s office.
Harrell faces charges of first-degreee murder and discharging a firearm from a vehicle. Lensing is charged with a parole violation. Both were transported back to Fort Smith, where Harrell is being held on a $50,000 cash bond.
A news release issued by the Fort Smith Police Department said officers responded to a fatal shooting in that city at approximately 4:45 a.m. The victim was identified as 39-year-old Jerry Beane.
Officers identified Harrell as the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant, according to the news release.
