No injuries as prisoner fires 2 shots inside BV hospital

No one was injured when a jail inmate being treated at Mercy hospital in Berryville after being arrested in Eureka Springs took a service weapon from a Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deputy and fired two shots inside the hospital before being disarmed by hospital staff on Saturday, May 10, the Arkansas State Police said in a news release issued Monday, May 12.

The inmate, William Kevin Rose, 25, of Little Rock, escaped custody after being disarmed and fled into a nearby wooded area before being located and taken back into custody, the ASP release.

The ASP’s Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the incident at the request of the sheriff’s office. As of Wednesday, May 14, Rose was being held in the Benton County Detention Center in Bentonville on a $500,000 bond.

Rose had been arrested by the Eureka Springs Police Department in a separate incident for aggravated assault and resisting arrest. After his arrest, Rose was transported to Mercy for medical treatment.

Charges against Rose include aggravated assault on an employee of a correctional facility, theft, resisting arrest, fleeing, battery, making terroristic threats and breaking or entering. It appears likely that more charges will be added stemming from the incident at the hospital.

Eureka Springs police chief Billy Floyd confirmed that Rose was arrested at a drug and alcohol treatment facility in Eureka Springs.

Court records indicate Rose has pending charges for theft of property in Pulaski County and commercial burglary in Saline County and a lengthy criminal history including convictions for domestic battery and aggravated assault.
