Two longtime state legislators with ties to Carroll County have announced that they will not seek new terms in 2026.
Ron McNair of Alpena said in a Facebook post on Friday, June 27, that he will not run for re-election to the District 5 seat in the state House of Representatives.
“After a few months of prayer, thoughts and conversations I have decided to not run for another term in the House of Representatives. This was a very hard decision because I consider it to be a great honor to serve the wonderful folks of District 98 for 4 terms and District 5 for 2 terms,” McNair wrote in the Facebook post. “I want to thank everyone for their support and friendship over the years. We discussed several reasons for not running for another term but l’m only going to touch on one. I have been in a publicly elected position consistently for over 40 years and that consumes a lot of family time. It just seemed like it was time. I can’t thank everyone enough for the support you ave given me over the years!!”
On Sunday, June 29, Harlan Breaux of Holiday Island wrote in a Facebook post that he will not seek another term representing District 6 in the state House.
“It has been a pleasure and a great honor to serve the constituents of district 6 for the past 7+ years,” Breaux wrote. “During those years I’ve had the opportunity to serve in the legislature, accomplish some goals, meet some interesting people and make lifelong friends. After talking to my family and praying, I believe it is time for me to begin a new chapter in my life. I will continue to serve the people of Arkansas as God leads me. However, I will not be seeking reelection for State Representative of District 6. Thank you all for your support through the years. Another worthy conservative Republican will have the opportunity to serve. Watch for updates and details.”
The party filing period for the 2026 general election will begin on Nov. 3, 2025.
