The Arkansas State Police is investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, Aug. 23, on Arkansas Highway 187 near Nightingale Road, north of Eureka Springs.

In a news release, the ASP said troopers responded at approximately 2:45 a.m. to reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, troopers confirmed one fatality at the scene. The Carroll County Coroner pronounced the victim deceased around 3:30 a.m. The identity of the victim was not released pending notification of the next of kin.

On Monday, Aug. 25, ASP identified the victim as Penny Bowling, 61, of Holiday Island.

The vehicle involved in the incident is described as a newer- model white Chevrolet pickup. Anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident or who has information relevant to the investigation is encouraged to contact ASP Troop L at 479-751-6663.
