Doss announces bid for 3rd term as county clerk

Carroll County & Probate Clerk Connie T. Doss has announced that she will seek a third term in the office.

“Carroll County & Probate Clerk Connie T. Doss is honored to announce that she is running for a third term as YOUR County Clerk to continue her dedicated efforts of transparency in government, professionalism and leadership,” says a news release announcing Doss’ candidacy on Monday, Oct. 27. “Integrity and the philosophy of servant leadership have served her well while working with her fellow elected officials, staff, and, You, the people of Carroll County.”

“When I was elected in 2019, I hit the ground running and have not stopped,” the news release quoted Doss as saying. “I really love what I do and that love of serving others is at the very core of who I am and is what guides me every day.”

The news release says Doss and her team have been diligent in digitizing records that are now available on the county’s web page. Probate case files, marriage licenses, the quorum court records and many others have been completely reindexed.

“I am proud of the work we’ve done on this project and of my team,” Doss said in the news release. “Our county records are an integral part of our collective history, and they must be preserved for the future. The fees collected in my office have paid for this work without the need for taxpayer funding, and the work will continue with many of the records dating back to the late 1860s.”

In addition to records management, the County Clerk’s office is the hub for elections and Doss recently announced that Green Forest will have its own early vote center.

“Also, through her leadership and the assistance of the office of emergency management, local police, fire, and other volunteers, an emergency plan was developed to keep voters safe during an election,” the news release said. “Clerk Doss received a homeland security grant that enabled the purchase of equipment to keep elections up and running.”

As bookkeeper of the county, Doss has standardized the accounts payable process among the various departments within county government, has been compliant with regulatory accounting practices as well as having clean state and federal audits, the news release says. The County Clerk is also responsible for human resources.

“I firmly believe that our county employees are our greatest assets and I have several ‘tools’ in my ‘toolbox’ that I can use to protect them and the county,” Doss said in the news release. “The adage of ‘this is how we have always done it’ is simply not in my vocabulary if a better way is available. Positive action, interaction, and collaboration is what will continue to make the office of the County Clerk more efficient, and I will continue to serve you well. Thank you for allowing me to serve and make a difference in county government because YOU deserve it. Your continued support, kind words and thoughts are very much appreciated.”

Doss has lived in Carroll County since 1987 and has been married to Barry Doss for 38 years. They have three grown children, Clare, Aaron and Cecilia. Doss’ time is spent reading about history, cross-stitching, singing at church, and working hard for the people of Carroll County, the news release says. Doss has been a bookkeeper for more than 40 years and has earned bachelor’s and associate’s degrees, both in the business and accounting disciplines.
