Ira Joe Johnson

Ira Joe Johnson, 93, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026, in Springdale, Arkansas. Born on November 21, 1932, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, he lived a long and meaningful life rooted in faith, family and service.

Joe proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. His commitment to duty and country was a defining chapter of his early life and reflected the values he carried throughout his years.

A devoted Christian, Joe was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Eureka Springs. Over the years, he also worshipped at First Assembly of God in Eureka Springs and later at Christian Life Cathedral in Springdale. His faith was central to his life and guided his actions both within his church communities and beyond.

Joe shared a loving marriage with Ethel Izell (Phillips) Johnson. They were well known for their presence at local ballgames, always cheering from the stands.

Heissurvivedbyhischildren: Steve (Kim) Johnson of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, and Lisa (Tracy) Young of Houston, Texas; grandchildren: Sam (Melanie) Johnson and Josh (Amber) Johnson; great-grandchildren: Asher Johnson,Annika Johnson, Jackson Johnson and Thatcher Johnson; and one sister, Wanda Tirey.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Izell; his parents, Glen Theodore Johnson and Lena Ferne (Worley) Johnson; and siblings, Glen, Floyd, Wayne, Bill, Lucy and June.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Nelson’s Chapel of The Springs at 9:00 a.m. The Funeral service will follow, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Nelson’s Chapel of The Springs.
