Rebecca Jane (Smith) Pope was born on February 21, 1956, in Sterling, Illinois to John M. Smith and Beverly Jean (Lemmons) Smith. Rebecca passed from this life on February 14, 2026, at the age of 69, at the Willard Walker Hospice House in Fayetteville, Arkansas, after a long battle with cancer.

Rebecca is survived by her husband, Ervin Capps of Eureka Springs. They were married 4 years ago, after 27 years of boating and companionship together; her beautiful daughter, Whitney Capps of Eureka Springs; two sisters, Pam (Todd) Fouts of Hornersville, Missouri and Robin (Cary) Johnson of Hendersonville, Tennessee. Rebecca also leaves behind many nieces and nephews that thought she was the coolest aunt of all. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Debbie Thompson and brother, Paul Smith. Rebecca owned the Benton Place Inn for over 30 years and throughout those years she made many friends. You might check in as a stranger, but when you left, you were her friend. She was always ready to listen to anyone’s problems and gave great advice to anyone who would listen. She never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She loved deeply and expected nothing in return. She will truly be missed by all who loved her.
