Eureka Springs Elementary School fourth-graders help celebrate the conclusion of a three-year Professional Learning Communities at Work project funded by the Arkansas Department of Elementary and Secondary Education during a ceremony Monday, May 16, at the school. The elementary faculty worked with a coaching team from Solution Tree to practice job-embedded professional development. The goal was to develop a collaborative team approach using data to improve professional practices and guarantee more students achieve at high levels. Two more Carroll County residents have died from complications related to the COVID-19 pandemic in the past week, bringing the local death toll associated with the novel coronavirus to 104. The two additional deaths were the first reported in Carroll County since April 11 and the second-highest weekly death toll since March 21.

Daniel Klatt will be the next Carroll County sheriff, while Sara Huffman will be the county’s next circuit clerk and Krista Burnett will be the new county tax collector. Klatt and Huffman won their respective races against multiple opponents in the Republican preferential primary Tuesday, while Burnett defeated Brittany Blok in the tax collector’s race.

State auditors found a number of issues related to Eureka Springs city finances and record-keeping, according to a report presented to a legislative committee last week. The Arkansas Legislative Audit division presented reports to the Legislative Joint Auditing Committee Standing Committees on Counties and Municipalities, Educational Institutions and State Agencies on Thursday, May 12.
