The Eureka Springs Mountain Bike Team won first place overall at the Mid-Season Classic. The team put five girls on the podium — Jenna Erickson, Winona Milwagon, Molly Arnold, Melanie Smith and Trew Freeman. Both boys and girls teams received first overall for trail core as well. The boys pulled off a fifth-place finish, despite being down one rider.

High school, elementary receive A’s

Most of us have had infections — a bad cold, pneumonia, even a skin infection after a minor injury. Usually, our bodies fight these off without difficulty or any lasting harm. But sometimes the body’s defenses are overwhelmed, or the body’s response to an infection is excessive. Instead of healing, it can cause serious damage. This is called sepsis, and it’s a medical emergency that can affect anyone.

David Ray “Sleepy” Blankenship of Eureka Springs, who had recently been appointed as Carroll County District 1 Justice of the Peace, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Sept. 25. He was 65.
