No new deaths related to COVID-19 pandemic were reported in Carroll County since Aug. 26, but the number of active cases saw a nearly 13 percent increase according to reports issued by the Arkansas Department of Health on Friday, Sept. 2.

A jury trial began Tuesday morning in Eureka Springs for the first of three defendants accused in the 2018 killing of a local man trial. Jason Hartley Helm is charged with first-degree murder and cruelty to animals in connection with the death of Chris Alvard, whose body was found in his home near Eureka Springs.

Eureka Springs City Council member Bill Ott will pay the city $1,000 to settle a lawsuit Ott filed in 2021. The city council approved the settlement agreement at its regular meeting Monday night.
