Daniel Klatt will be the next Carroll County sheriff, while Sara Huffman will be the county’s next circuit clerk and Krista Burnett will be the new county tax collector. Klatt and Huffman won their respective races against multiple opponents in the Republican preferential primary Tuesday, while Burnett defeated Brittany Blok in the tax collector’s race.

Discussions about a recently released legislative audit of city finances got contentious among council members at the Eureka Springs City Council’s regular meeting on Monday, May 23. While some council members felt the audit results reflected minor issues, others were more disappointed with the findings.

The Eureka Springs Cemetery Commission apparently didn’t follow Arkansas law when it went into executive session twice over a two-day period, terminating one employee and — according to documents — promoting another.

Eureka Springs Elementary School fourth-graders help celebrate the conclusion of a three-year Professional Learning Communities at Work project funded by the Arkansas Department of Elementary and Secondary Education during a ceremony Monday, May 16, at the school. State auditors found a number of issues related to Eureka Springs city finances and record-keeping, according to a report presented to a legislative committee last week. The Arkansas Legislative Audit division presented reports to the Legislative Joint Auditing Committee Standing Committees on Counties and Municipalities, Educational Institutions and State Agencies on Thursday, May 12.

The Eureka Springs City Advertising and Promotion Commission spent most of its recent workshop discussing tweaks to procedures for giving marketing money to individuals and groups who are bringing events to the city.

The Carroll County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Arkansas Community Foundation, recently announced that ECHO Village has successfully met and exceeded its fundraising match and has been awarded a $10,000 grant from Endowment for Home Improvement in Carroll County.
