Carroll County Newspapers, publisher of the Lovely County Citizen, filed an official complaint with Carroll County prosecuting attorney Tony Rogers about a recent meeting of the Eureka Springs Cemetery Commission.

An attorney representing a group of plaintiffs in a civil lawsuit in connection with the Eureka Springs City Advertising and Promotion Commission filed a second amended complaint last week, listing a litany of new allegations and adding the commission’s former executive director as a defendant.

Early voting will begin Tuesday, June 14, for the June 21 Republican preferential primary runoff election. Voters who chose a Republican or nonpartisan judicial ballot in the May 24 primary are eligible to vote in the Republican runoff, as are registered voters who did not vote in the primary.

The Arkansas Supreme Court has dismissed a lawsuit filed by a Eureka Springs company that argued it was improperly denied a license to operate a medical marijuana dispensary. Carroll County Holdings Inc., doing business as Eureka Green, filed suit in June 2020 against the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration, the Arkansas Alcoholic Beverage Control Division and the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Commission.

Active cases of COVID-19 in Carroll County are still on the rise, with 37 reported by the Arkansas Department of Health on Monday. Statewide, the number of active cases rose to 4,936, a nearly 27-percent increase since May 31.

Maria Ellis, a mathematics and robotics teacher at Eureka Springs Middle School, has been awarded a classroom grant by the Arkansas State Teachers Association (ASTA). The $500 classroom grant will be applied toward the purchase of three Sphero BOLT coding robots for her students.

A little bit of curiosity is leading to some big things for the Good Shepherd Doggie Thrift Store in Berryville. The thrift store, one of two in Carroll County that helps fund Good Shepherd Animal Shelter, will be moving to a larger, more efficient facility by year’s end.

American Legion Post 9 of Eureka Springs held its annual Memorial Day ceremonies Monday, May 30, honoring the memory of America’s fallen military personnel. Army veteran Vince Eastwood, who served in Operation Desert Storm and is now a board member with Ozark Mountain Veterans, told those in attendance that Memorial Day is not a happy occasion.

Tourism financials continue to be on the rise in Eureka Springs. According to reports heard by the City Advertising and Promotion Commission at its May 25 regular meeting, financial and marketing numbers both show noteworthy increases.
