Board approves alternative calendar for ’24-’25

The Eureka Springs School District is adopting an alternative calendar next school year aimed at combating the wrath of Mother Nature. Instead of using a traditional 178-day calendar, the district will use a schedule based on 1,068 hours and will begin each school day 10 minutes early.

Delia Tapia-Ibarra was selected as the February Caught Your Character Student of the Month at Eureka Springs High School. “On any given day, you will find Delia helping someone,” her nomination said. “She tutors younger students, she helps in the classrooms and is a leader in activities and sports programs. She is kindhearted and wants everyone to succeed.” Delia (left) is pictured with Jennifer Cross of Mud Street Cafe, which sponsors the award and provided a special lunch.

The Arkansas State Police’s Criminal Investigation Division is investigating a fatal shooting involving a Eureka Springs police officer. According to an ASP news release, dispatchers with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call on Friday, March 1, from the Rowdy Beaver Den at 47 Spring St.

The Carroll County Senior Activity and Wellness Center is located at 202 W. Madison Ave. in Berryville. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday. Lunch is served at noon each weekday. The suggested donation for ages 60 and up is $4. There is a $6 charge for those under 60 and all carryout meals. Menus are subject to change.
