The Purple Flower, Safe To Be and Out in Eureka are pleased to announce Matt Crowley’s The Boys in the Band will be performed Nov. 6-8 at Inspiration Point Center for the Arts as part of Fall Diversity Weekend in Eureka Springs. The performances will serve as a fundraiser for The Purple Flower and Safe To Be.
The Boys in the Band is of huge historical importance to the LGBTQ+ community. First performed Off Broadway in 1968, it explores the hidden lives and complex friendships of a group of gay men gathered at a birthday party in New York City. The play was considered groundbreaking for its honest portrayal of gay characters.
With more than 1,000 performances, it was made into a movie in 1970. The play was revived on Broadway in 2018 to great acclaim, receiving a Tony Award, and was produced as a movie in 2020 starring Jim Parsons.
Local director Gene Flake will produce and direct.
Tickets will be available at outineureka.org.
