ESHS drama students set to present ‘Wizard of Oz’

Local residents are encouraged to follow the yellow brick road to the Eureka Springs High School Auditorium on Friday and Saturday, May 13-14, as the ESHS Drama Department presents The Wizard of Oz. Under the direction of Rick Mann, more than 30 ESHS students will present the Young Performers Edition of the musical, an abbreviated, 90-minute version featuring Emma Hutchins as Dorothy, Hayden Williams as Tin Man, Kat Robinson as Scarecrow, Conner Henson as the Cowardly Lion, Hannah Kelley as Glinda, Jacob Eastburn/Thomas Hayden as The Wizard and Joa Murray as the Wicked Witch.

Williams honored by DAR chapter

Suzanne Williams, historic preservation chair for Abendschone Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, received an award for 30-plus years of volunteer work in historic preservation. Williams researched and published her book Nebraska and the CCC: Young Men at Their Best, preserving the history of the Civilian Conservation Corps in Nebraska. Other volunteer work in Eureka Springs include her research for the Eureka Springs Cemetery, her work at the Eureka Springs Historic Museum and her research for the annual historic calendars published by a local bank. CS Bank celebrates 110 years

Wednesday, May 4, marked the 110-year anniversary for CS Bank. Formerly Bank of Eureka Springs and Cornerstone Bank before shortening its name in 2020 to CS Bank, the financial institution was chartered in 1912 and remains the only local bank headquartered in Eureka Springs with seven locations throughout Northwest Arkansas and southwest Missouri.

Kennedy released on bond

Robert Kennedy, the candidate for Carroll County sheriff who was arrested last week on multiple felony charges, was released from jail Sunday night after posting bond. Kennedy was released from the Carroll County Detention Center in Berryville around 8 p.m. Sunday. Carroll County District Judge Dale Ramsey had set Kennedy’s bond at $100,000 after his initial judicial appearance on Wednesday, April 27. Ramsey also ordered that Kennedy could be released without posting bond if he agreed to a voluntary commitment directly to an inpatient hospital on a locked unit.

CAPC OKs $107K for Aud renovations

The Auditorium will continue to receive a facelift after more funds were approved for renovations and improvements. The Eureka Springs City Advertising and Promotion Commission, at its April 27 meeting, unanimously approved $107,443 from its surplus budget to be used for an array of projects aimed at sprucing up the facility.
