The Eureka Springs Historic District Commission has approved the refurbishing of one of the city’s oldest landmarks. The stone retaining wall at Crescent Spring Park, located on Spring Street near Carnegie Library, needs repair and improvements, according to Eureka Springs parks director Scott Miskiel.

Eczema, seborrhea and psoriasis are all conditions that cause red eruptions often with scale on the skin and scalp. Eczema is found most anywhere on the body while seborrhea looks similar but involves sebaceous (oil) glands of the skin and psoriasis can be found anywhere but is usually on elbows and knees. All three are an inflammation of the skin and this is called dermatitis. None of the three is contagious.

Members of the Eureka Springs Parks and Recreation Commission said they received “numerous” calls and messages from residents inquiring why there was no fireworks display in the city for the Fourth of July holiday.

Much-needed renovations and improvements to Basin Spring Park had the Eureka Springs City Council’s full attention at its regular meeting Monday, July 11. Parks director Scott Miskiel shared with the council the needs for the popular park in downtown Eureka Springs and the frustration that comes with trying to figure out how to pay for all the needed work.

A recording device used to document meetings continues to cause issues for the Eureka Springs Cemetery Commission.?At a June 27 workshop, the recording device “failed to capture” the meeting, according to Kim Stryker, assistant to Eureka Springs Mayor Butch Berry.

Shreveport, La.-based Southwestern Electric Power Co., which provides electric power to approximately 1,700 customers in and around Eureka Springs, announced Wednesday, June 29, that the Arkansas Public Service Commission has approved a base rate increase for SWEPCO customers in Arkansas, as well as an interim fuel adjustment for the 2021 winter storm fuel recovery cost.

Carroll County Newspapers managing editor Scott Loftis and associate editor Robert Cox received a total of five awards in the National Newspaper Association Foundation’s 2022 Better Newspaper Contest — including first place for Loftis in Freedom of Information reporting — the foundation announced Thursday, June 30.

Continuing increases in COVID-19 cases in Carroll County have prompted at least one local hospital to reinstate some of its pandemic protocols. Eureka Springs Hospital CEO Angie Shaw told members of the hospital commission last week that the recent spike has caused the hospital to reinstate some to the protocols it had relaxed, including masks and barriers in certain areas.

Arvest Bank has announced the addition of David Teigen to its local board of directors in Eureka Springs. Teigen is the owner of Teigen Insurance and Teigen Properties and has worked in the insurance industry since 1976.
