Voting YES: A decision for Eureka Springs’ future

Posted

As a resident and business leader, I have followed the proposed 1 percent sales tax initiative for water and sewer improvements closely. I have been part of a group that has challenged the Mayor to focus and refine the proposal, examined the need for the improvements, and carefully considered possible alternatives.

After that review, I have concluded that this initiative represents our only realistic opportunity to stabilize water and sewer rates, which have become a burden to residents and businesses and a barrier to those considering future investment in Eureka Springs.

Engineering professionals have been involved, the infrastructure needs are real, and state water and sewer rate studies are clear in their assumptions. The proposed improvements will make an impact while benefiting residents and businesses alike. Importantly, the sales tax approach shares the financial responsibility with visitors and higher-volume purchasers rather than placing the burden solely on local utility customers.

This is about protecting what we have, enabling modest growth, and always working towards making Eureka Springs a great place to live and operate a business.

I will be voting YES on the 1 percent sales tax, YES on the sewer bond, and YES on the water bond.

I ask that you carefully consider joining me in supporting these important improvements.
