Highlanders look to speed things up

The Eureka Springs Highlanders will have a mostly new roster and an almost entirely new style of play when basketball season tips off this fall. The Highlanders, who reached the regional tournament last season for the second consecutive year, lost a pair of key seniors to graduation in Dylan Johnson, the team’s leading scorer, and Shane Holloway, a 6-11 center who was capable of dominating around the basket.

Teen Game Night is every third Friday night of the month at the Eureka Springs Community Center. This month, Friday, June 16, will be Nintendo Switch Night. Join in for games and a sloppy Joe dinner in the lobby at 6 p.m. and then teens only in the gym at 7 p.m. Ages 12(ish) and up invited. Youth memberships or signed liability waivers are required. Memberships can be purchased online at escommunity.org or at the front desk.

Eureka Springs schools were well represented in the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Youth Shooting Sports Competition held April 28 and 29 in Jacksonville. This is Eureka Springs’ third year to compete and the district fielded two senior teams and two junior teams.
